Version 0.6 was released on 8 March 2012. Since the release of this version, Team Xonotic's stated aim has been to "create the best possible fast-paced open-source FPS game". It featured multi-language support, seven new maps, vehicle support, and enhancements to weapons and player movement, among other changes. Version 0.5 was released on 8 September 2011. A preview version was released on 23 December 2010. Approximately seven months later the source code was published via Git. Since this turn of events was unexpected by the community and most Nexuiz developers, they promised to create a fork controlled by a community in an open manner. The original creator, Lee Vermeulen, secretly made a deal with IllFonic which gave them hold over the Nexuiz trademark. In March 2010, controversy arose over the original Nexuiz being licensed to IllFonic to create a commercial version. Players can also personalize their HUD according to their exact preferences. The developers claim that the graphics quality is comparable to commercial video game titles released between 20. The game runs on the DarkPlaces engine and thus supports bloom, dynamic lighting and shadowing, offset mapping, and high-dynamic-range rendering. The game features a futuristic aesthetic, with maps set in high-tech environments and in space. Weapons have special abilities such as multiple fire modes, which increase the tactical options available to the players. This is done with classic techniques including strafe jumping, bunny hopping, and rocket jumping. Emphasis is placed on movement and player physics, with a focus on gaining speed, jumping great distances, and conquering the level geometry. While the basic concept is inspired by other games of the same genre, there are several unique elements. The gameplay is very fast-paced, due to players being able to move at high speed and jump erratically. To score points, players must kill enemies using futuristic weapons while completing objectives. In order to unlock more game modes, players must complete different levels of gameplay. Gameplay Videos Nexuiz 2.There are sixteen different game modes in Xonotic, including classic modes like deathmatch and capture the flag. This includes all new GUI graphics elements, as well as reflective water and improved particles. On February 29, 2008, nearly three years after the initial release, version 2.4 was released and brought major improvements to both the GUI and the graphics engine. Development continued after the initial release, with 1.1 released soon after, 1.5 released February 14, 2006, 2.0 released Jand 2.1 September 9, 2006. After four years of development with no budget, Nexuiz 1.0 was released on May 31, 2005, completely under the GNU GPL, and by the end of June had over a quarter million downloads. The original design called for a simple deathmatch project with a few levels and one character model to be released the next summer. Soon afterward the project moved to the DarkPlaces Quake engine created by Forest Hale, who later also joined the project. Nexuiz development started as a Quake modification in the summer of 2001 by Lee Vermeulen. Currently there are a few custom mods and maps used. Nexuiz supports most Quake modifications (although with varying functionality). It can also support new gametypes, or whole conversions quickly applied to it (much like Quake). Nexuiz is primarily multiplayer (though it includes a full single-player campaign, which allows one to play through the various multiplayer game types and maps with bots), and allows for hosting and joining of games. All these effects can be turned off to make the game run on older hardware. The graphics in Nexuiz use coronas, the bloom shader effect, Realtime World and Dynamic Lighting and shadowing, shaders (with OpenGL 2.0), offset mapping, and High dynamic range rendering. Nexuiz is a first-person shooter with nine weapons, 24 official maps and over 240 community created maps, as well as 15 player models.
